Mr Romantic vs. Mr Player.

I read a piece on thenakedconvos.com by thetoolsman about the relationship/differences between a romantic man and a player. He talked about how the player sees the romantic and vice-versa.
So, It caught my fancy, I felt however, that it was tilted a little more to the point of view of the player, I therefore thought I'd write something something about it too, from the full point of view of the romantic, who I may be, Maybe. After permission from thetoolsman of course. I don't want nobody suing me you know.
So here goes...

It's always been a mystery to Mr Romantic how the player does it, I mean how do you become a serial heartbreaker and still get a woman to always open her arms to you in welcome every single time, How??

To be honest, sometimes Mr Romantic wish he had the heart to do what the player does consistently, even if it's just one single time. But he can't.

You see, deep inside, the romantic does not really like the player, don't get me wrong, he respects him, but he just fails to understand what fascinates a woman about him, he just doesn't get it. In fact, to him, the player does not deserve to be loved. He's a jerk.

You could call it jealousy, I mean, who wouldn't be jealous, you know. Before the romantic even settles at a party, the player has already gotten four phone numbers. Before the romantic gets a simple text message returned, the player is already on a second date. So honestly, who wouldn't be jealous?? Who?

It hurts him to have to chase a woman and put his all into it, a woman he really likes and after all his hard work, he still loses the woman to the player. Who probably has 5 more girlfriends at that moment, on the side. His side-chicks.

To the romantic, the player doesn't care, even half as much as he does. He knows deep inside his guts that he can be a million times a better man for her than the player will ever be, maybe he's wrong, but it doesn't matter does it? He still never wins her heart, because for some strange, strange reason, she believes that she can change him. Can a Leopard ever change his spots? Does she have any idea how many other women have travailled the never ending path to changing the heart of Mr Player? Sometimes the romantic wonders how a woman always prefers to give her heart out to someone that is bound to play with it. It amazes him.

It's all just a short sprint race to the player, something he can go into and come out of as it pleases him, but to the romantic, it's a marathon, a relationship is like a marathon, it's not a short process. He may be laying the foundation bricks for his future, you just never know. This is love we are talking about, it's a matter of the heart to Mr Romantic, not just a 'fling', the word 'fling' does not exist in the romantic's dictionary, it never has, it never will.

The romantic ridicules himself constantly, comparing himself to his player friend. 'Look, you see the difference between you two? The player switches women like he's switching clothes, and you? What about you huh? You can't, can you?'

But he consoles himself with what probably is an illusion. The illusion that he would one day find the love of his life, one that would complete him. But I say again. It's probably an illusion, isn't it? A woman most probably doesn't fancy a romantic as much, so his is almost always a lost cause, it's almost certain he is never going to find the happiness he knows he deserves. Sigh!

Me Inc.: Self branding!

Tom Peters, the American Management Guru said: “Regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business we happen to be in, all of
us need to understand the importance of branding. We are the CEO’s of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be the head marketer for the brand called you”.

A while ago, I read an article by Lekan Otufodunrin of the nation newspaper, with a rather captivating title: Be Warned, You can be 'Googled'. After reading it. I decided to test the efficacy of his claims, I therefore googled my name. Simply, I saw everything about me, even things I'd forgotten about. How? Mostly via facebook.

Have you ever tried to google yourself? You may be amazed at what you see if you try. Certain things you may have completely forgotten about suddenly resurfaces.

Let me try to paint you a scenario: during an interview for a job you desperately want (your dream job), you manage to convince your interviewer how good and responsible a person you are and how he will be lucky to have you working for his company, you prove to him how incredibly smart you are and how superbly you can handle pressure situations.

He falls in love with you, he's impressed by your finesse, poise, charm and charisma. So at the end of the interview, he decides to check you up through google. Fortunately for him (most probably unfortunately for you), he stumbles upon your facebook page (is it safe to say you're finished?) and finds those semi naked pictures of you, amazing. And there you were telling him about responsibility. It's almost certain you won't get the job at the end of the day.

What do search engines say about us? Is our public image safe and employer friendly? We cannot totally be offline, the necessity of having a healthy online presence cannot be over-emphasized, this is after all the 21st century.

Fact however remains, not all internet publicity is good enough publicity. Having a ridiculous e-mail address on your resume for instance, does not paint the best picture of you to your potential employer, and I'm sure we all know what I mean by a ridiculous e-mail address. We need to clean up our e-presence, for our own good.

Fact is, it's extremely scary how much search engines can tell about us, whether it's right or wrong is another discussion for another day, what is even more scary is how often potential employers search online to see if they can get a peek at their potential employees. Do you blame them??

It therefore may not be totally a bad idea to try and clean up your online profile, it's worth it, since it has the ability to impact your career.

If at the moment, you're a job-seeker, and you've been getting negative responses from companies, chances are, your facebook profile picture is the one where you were in a party and your friends were pouring bottles of heineken on you, or the one where you were wearing that extremely revealing, PG18 outfit. It's probably time to take those down.

If however, you are not yet a job seeker, probably a student, maybe you still have some time.

The importance of branding yourself cannot be overemphasized. Therefore brand yourself wisely, don't let your online personality give a wrong impression to a potential employer.

Till next time,, Keep dreaming!!

Bryan Anderson: The cycle of Help!

There once lived an old lady, 60. She had a flat tyre, in the middle of nowhere, she was old and frail, there was no way she could change a car tyre, she tried to make a phone call but there was no network coverage. So she just bent down to see what she could do. Just then, a wretched looking man was passing along the same road. The woman got scared considering what the man looked like, she feared the worst "what if he's a criminal? What will I do? Will he hurt me??" she thought. Her mind wandered.

"Do you need any help?" the wretched looking man asked, "you're cold, maybe you should go inside the car and wait while I change the tyres for you, it's warmer inside your car" She was frozen, she felt ashamed of herself for thinking the worst of such a good man. "Thank you" she managed to muster. "My name is Bryan Anderson by the way" the man smiled as he gestured a handshake towards her. She smiled back and said thank you and entered into her car.

Bryan Anderson, after getting himself very dirty successfully changed the flat tyre to the delight of the old lady. "I'm from downtown, I was journeying back home and then this happened but God bless you, tell me, how can I repay you? I'm ready to pay you any amount." she said as she alighted from her car and he tightened the last bolt. "You don't owe me anything ma'am, I just helped someone in need, if you really wanna pay me, help anyone in need and let the cycle continue" he smiled cheerfully, she could not thank him enough, "God bless you. May all your endings be successful, thanks very much". She entered again into her car, while Bryan Anderson waved at her "and think of me while helping someone else" he said cheerfully as she drove off.

It had been a cold and
depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she proceeding on the rest of her journey.

It wasn't your average restaurant, it was alot below standard. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her.
The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn’t remove.

The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let that change her cheerful attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger, Then she remembered Bryan Anderson.

After she finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her, but the old lady had slipped away. She was gone by the time the waitress got back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin.

She almost wept when she read what the lady wrote: “You don’t owe me anything. Somebody once helped me out, If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you. Under the napkin were four more $100 bills. She was so happy, it was like her prayers had been answered.

That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she
was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known that she and her husband needed it? With the baby due anytime soon, it would have been hard for them. "She's God sent the waitress thought".
She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, “Everything’s going to be all right. I love you, my dear husband, Bryan Anderson".

The moral of the story is help whoever is in need, you just never know who would help you.

Big Dreams.

Mark Twain once wrote...
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Dreams are achievable, it doesn't matter how big you think they are, a dream can never be bigger than the dreamer. If you are big enough to dream it, you are definitely big enough to make it come true.

Fact is, life is short, way too short. The only happy people are those that are fulfilled, there's a difference between being successful and being fulfilled.
- A successful person does something and most probably makes money off of that something.
- A fulfilled person however loves the something he does, it doesn't really matter that he makes less money than the successful person, the important thing is, he does what he loves, and loves what he does, thus he achieves more, because love drives passion, and passion drive achievement.

Striving for fulfillment brings along success, but striving for success does not necessarily mean fulfillment will come along. We will explore Success and Fulfillment some other time.

Living our dreams means doing exactly what God has created us to do, and loving every moment of it.
Big dreams are what makes for positive changes in the world. They are what bring about amazing life changing inventions.
We limit our dreams because we've seen only too many people who have lunged towards their dreams but fall and fail miserably, but isn't it better to at least say you tried??
I'm going to end this post the way I started it.

Mark Twain once wrote "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
If it doesn't feel good, what are you doing it for??

Your Money or Your Life.

Is your wallet really worth dying for??

I came across a story today about a man that was murdered because he refused to 'cooperate' when he was attacked by armed robbers.

Okay let me just chip this in, schools don't teach you how to defend yourself, they probably should, wouldn't you agree?? There are a lot of things schools don't teach that they ought to, a lot of things you can't learn within the four walls of a classroom. I'll talk about that further sometime in May. Buh if you can't wait here

So anyway, back to our discussion, will you rather die than tell an armed robber where in the house you've kept your cash? Criminals are rogues and a stain to society and they should not be granted any wish, that's true, but at that moment, when you're being robbed, you are under their control. They can kill you.

I've had armed robbery experience once before, if you've never experienced it, pray not to. It was 45 minutes of hell that day, 18th november, 2011. I can't ever forget.

When you're being robbed, and a gun is being pointed at you. You are at the beckon of the 'gun wielder' it's therefore probably best not to try to overpower him, it doesn't matter how strong you think you are. Your life is at stake, except you feel for some strange reason, that your life isn't as important/more important than the money.

Money comes and goes but you only live once, so live wisely.

Another arguement is they'll probably still shoot you even though you give them the money.. You don't really know that, do you?? You don't. But there's only one way to find out.

There's nothing worst than having one's life cut shot by some animal in human form, therefore, stay alive. Your wallet isn't more important than your life.

Till next time,, Keep dreaming!!

12 Missed Calls

How is every one's day going? Mine is going very well, thanks for asking, even though you did not really ask.

Cell phones have come to stay as pointed out in this site!

Question is, are we using it rightly?? When I say using rightly what I mean is simple, if you call a persons cell number twice and the person does not pick up doesn't that constitute sufficient evidence for you to infer that the person is either away from his phone or cannot answer your call at that moment??
I mean, why in God's name should you call a person 10 different times within the space of say, 30 minutes?

I witnessed an incident in an examination hall one day, the invigilator asked everyone to switch off their phones, I thought everyone did. I was apparently wrong as about 15 minutes later a phone started to ring.
"Who's that?" the invigilator asked. But nobody said a word.

He knew he'd be chasing a lost course if he decided to investigate further based on the enormity of the number of students sitting for the exam, so he inquired no further.

Minutes later, the phone rang again, thrice, three different times. The invigilator, obviously getting angry, asked again "I said who is that?", still no response. The man got wise, extremely. He said absolutely nothing, however, he walked down towards where the noise(ringtone) was emanating from. And guess what happened?? You're right, a minute later the phone rang again. This time the culprit couldn't hide, the invigilator got him, seized his answer booklet, his phone and walked him out. Smart man, four days for the thief, one day for the owner. Pardon my digression.

My point is, probably the boy who was caught with the phone was stupid for not adhering to the invigilators instruction or for not switching the phone off after it rang the first time. But the real stupid person, is the one who kept on calling him when it was obvious that he couldn't pick, he called him 5 times in the space of about 7 minutes, and he caused the phone to be seized.

I was prompted to blog about this because it happened to me earlier, in the 30 minutes a phone number which wasn't even in my contact list called me 12 times, I was away from my phone and when I saw it, I got very worried, extremely worried. "JESUS, WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED? WHO IS THIS??" I thought as my hands began to sweat. I gradually summoned courage and called the person back.

To my utter dismay, it was a friend, calling to ask about a football match. I was livid, if you could kill a person over the phone I would have killed him. "have you lost your mind? You called me twelve times in less than 30minutes to ask about a stupid football match?" I thought, but I just could not get myself to utter a word, so I just hung up.

There's nothing more annoying, especially if the caller does not even have any tangible information to pass across.

Thanks for reading my rant!!

Till next time,, Keep dreaming!!

Kate and John: A story of Time

"Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you."

-Carl Sandburg

I came across quite a story earlier today, and I thought I'd share it with you guys, so here goes...

A 34 year old single mother, Kate was on her way home from work one night drenched, tired, angry. ''I hate my boss, I hope he dies" she thought as she negotiated the final junction en-route her house, 9.45pm.

Finally, she got home in desperate need for tranquility, peace and quiet, as she struggled to lift herself in order to climb the three stirs that led to her apartment, there he was, John, her 15 year old son.

Startled, she asked "John, for Christ's sake, it's 10, what are you doing outside?" John wasn't as extremely pleased to see her mum as other children may have been, he looked distant, something was wrong.

John: "Mum, can I ask you a question please?" ''What is it?'' she asked, fearing the worst. John replied "Mum, how much do you earn in an hour?''
She was livid, she wondered why he sat outside all that time just so he could ask her such stupid question.

''So you mean you've been outside all this time so you could ask me that?'' she asked as she opened the front door and pushed him inside. ''Okay, I earn ¤1000 an hour, are you satisfied?''

"I just have one more question mum, could you please loan me ¤500? Please?'' John asked with a glow in his eyes. "What? How can you be so selfish? I should give you that money so you can buy a toy? Or something stupid? What about all the money I give you for school? Can't you save so you can buy all your crap? Go to your room and think about what you've done, you've made me very angry"

Kate sat on her bed that night, a lot concerned. "I didn't even ask him what he wanted the money for, I shouldn't have been so hard on him" she thought, she was restless, she couldn't sleep. So she took ¤500 and headed to John's room.

"John", "John??" she called. "I apologise for my reaction earlier, I was quite tired. I didn't even ask what you wanted the money for, anyway, here it is" as she stretched the ¤500 to John. "thank you very much mum, God bless you" as he excitedly collected the money. Then, to her surprise, he went under his pillow and brought out some other wads of bills.

"Wait John, you mean to tell me you had some money and you collected some more from me?" Kate asked as she was starting to get angry all over again.

But to her shock John stretched all the money to his mother "You earn ¤1000 every hour, I had ¤500, so I borrowed another ¤500 from you in order to buy an hour of your time tomorrow, I mιss you mum and I want to have dinner with you tomorrow".

Kate was touched, she hugged him as tears stream down her eyes.

This is an advice to everyone. Share some time with the people you love, because you just never know what could happen next. You own your time, don't waste it on people that don't matter.

Till next time,, Keep dreaming!!

Chewing Gums!

We must have all had that moment when we are desperately in need to get into 'our zone', when we seriously need to concentrate but we can't because of the incessant, infuriating, wanna-stick-a-screw-driver-into-your-ear pop pop pop pop pop noises emanating from the mouth of the person next to you, chewing gum.

Quick caveat: I honestly do not post everything that comes into my head, I always try as much as possible not to publish stuff that you (my reader) could find offensive, but I honestly believe that this issue is one that affects us all, negatively. Besides, we all want to make the world a better and more conducive place to live in.

It gets really annoying, at times, when you're in the library for example and a person is carelessly chewing away. It has happened to me once before, quite a while ago.

In order to get the tranquility that the course 'pathogenic bacteriology' required, I decided to go to the Library to read, worst decision ever, because I just could not concentrate while the lady next to me kept on chewing and chewing loud, extremely loud. Luckily for me, she was not disturbing just me but a lot of people, so she stopped after she got some rather negative pieces of peoples minds.
I was reminded about the incident earlier today when I saw another young lady chewing away.

The argument posed by individuals who engage in this act is that they cannot concentrate fully in examination halls or places where they need to concentrate without chewing gum? Really? I don't know how that works, however, that argument brings me to another 'neighbouring' issue.

Chewing Gum Etiquette..
Here are a few etiquettes we need to try and apply while chewing our precious gum.
1. Do not chew with your mouth open: Apart from the fact that this is disgusting, it also causes noise pollution.
2. Do not blow chewing gum bubbles in the public: However tempting and perhaps fun it may be, it is the height of rudeness, believe me, I know.
3. Please do not smack your gum loudly: It infuriate the hell out of the people around you. Nobody wants to hear your gum pop every two seconds.
4. Do not chew gums during a job interview.
Wait, on second thought, I think you should, and ask your interviewer if he wants one too. Lol! You will surely get the job.
Okay that's a joke.
5. Maybe most importantly, DISPOSE YOUR GUMS INSIDE A TRASH CAN. I assure you, nobody wants to step on a gum while taking a stroll down the sidewalk and just as well, nobody wants to touch a gum while their hands are playfully wandering under a desk.
You dig? It ain't cool!

So I guess that's all I have to say about that. For now.

Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

Dear Mr President.

Dear Mr President,
Before I say anything, let me just have you know that at the moment, I'm too infuriated to be patient enough for the formalties of 'sir' at the beginning of every paragraph. Also, please realize, unlike other 'open letters' of this sorts, I'm not really going to begin by patronizing you.

Mr President, I am scared, I've lived in Nigeria all my life, slightly over two decades, and in all that time, I've never been this afraid of my status as a citizen of this great nation (or otherwise) of ours.

I always wonder... What exactly happened?? What went wrong??

At some point we (Nigerians) were regarded as the happiest people in the world. Now, Forbes rates us amongst the first 20 saddest..
Just try to imagine the political decadence that must have occured for that to happen.

How do I react to the fact that on tv the most significant information passed across is for citizens to 'steer clear of crowded places'? How can I live with the fact that going to church to serve God may be detrimental to my life??

Borrowing from my favourite singer 'How do you even sleep at night? Who do you pray for?' Who do you think of before you go to sleep? How do you look at yourself in the mirror?
Do you even care? Do we even matter to you? Or is it just about enriching your pocket and throwing parties for your wife at Australia.

Recall when you were campaigning to be president in 2011? After you had acted as president for some time, When you told us you had no shoes, when you brainwashed us by telling us you knew what it felt like to not know where your next meal will come from? You gave the people an impression that you understood them, when you really did not.

I know there are pressures that comes along with your office, and that you cannot possibly do 'everything', but do you ever try to consider that perhaps you brought this pressures upon yourself? No?

I just wonder why most citizens believed you and dared to imagine that perhaps you were different. Perhaps you were not as bad as those others. How wrong they were.

I probably always knew that you were nothing but a politician, but that's besides the point.

Do you remember wikileaks? How they exposed your statements to the American ambassador, how you said you were 'inexperienced' and naive. And you 'lacked administrative expertise', how you said you weren't the most qualified person for the then position of vice president. And that your appointment as vice president was purely political?

I wonder how Nigerians forgot about that. Oh wait, I think I remember, it was the time when Nigerians were so blindly in love with you and felt for some strange reason that you were their Messiah!! I'm pretty sure they know better now.

Here is something extremely important. You have come up with an idea to grant amnesty to these terrorists - Boko Haram, reports say you intend to pay them a sum of 100,000 naira a month, keeping in mind that you already pay militants from the south 75,000 naira. How much do youth corpers earn? A meagre 19,000 naira. These are people who have toiled to get themselves an education. And that is not to say that there is an automatic job waiting out there for them after the service year. It's back to the hustle and bustle. We can therefore deduce that violence pays more in Nigeria than an education. Wow!!

I can't blame you for the amnesty deal though, that is probably the best option, especially considering that you probably are an egotistic narcissist, because I believe, if you are not, then your resignation may appease them (the terrorists), remember your assumption of office seemed to have triggered them in the first place, however, You and I know you're never going to resign. You love the office too much. Perhaps you should love the people more than the office.

A lot of people have lost their lives since you became president, if not from terrorist attacks, then from something stupid you'd come up with, removing subsidy on petrol for example.

Even though you probably will never read this, and this may be extremely insignificant to you, and you may regard it as a little boy's rant, fact is, you are not who the people thought you were.

The only Nigerians that are happy with you at this point, are those that benefit some things from you, and when I say 'benefit', I don't even mean that legally.

I hate to recall your promises after you increased fuel pump prices on the 1st of January, 2012. But let me remind you of a couple...
-You said you'd provide a very large number of buses in every single state of the federation which would ease transportation. There are no buses anywhere around here, unfortunately.
You also said you would revive rail transportation, in fairness, maybe rail transportation is actually coming back to life. About time.

I am not going to end this by saying God bless you and God bless Nigeria and Goodbye, I honestly wish I could, but I can't.
I'm just gonna say: the nation is on a downward spiral, and it seems to be your fault. There's no way you can make Nigerians believe in you again, but since you're not going anywhere, at least until 2015, hopefully, try to alleviate just a little bit of the sufferings of Nigerians.

Luiz Suarez and other Football disasters.

AM, night. And for some strange, strange reason, I couldn't sleep. This was strange considering that I have what is the exact opposite of insomnia, i refer to it as 'exsomnia', the ability to sleep, especially at night.

So since I couldn't sleep, I started thinking: why couldn't I sleep?? A few reasons came to my mind, mostly footballing, it's not like I'm a football fanatic or anything like that. It's just that some pretty amazing things happened in the BPL or EPL yesterday.

Like the fading Champions, City, losing to a resilient Tottenham hotspurs, after they'd led by a lone goal for most of the match, and the dent it may have caused for my dearly beloved Arsenal's ambition of a top four finish, what were City thinking?? What were they smoking? Everyone knows you have to keep playing till the final whistle.. Seriously, what the hell? Now Tottenham is in a very comfortable position, they are going to finish ahead of us(arsenal)if they win their remaining 5 or so matches.

Oh wait, there is a certain Chelsea FC, also in almost the same position as Tottenham and The Arsenal! So it's a 3-way tie for the 2 available champions league spots, 3rd and 4th. Chelsea, however, have some difficult matches to play, extremely difficult considering that they couldn't lay a mostly bewildered liverpool side to bed.

Talking about a bewildered Liverpool side, I can't help but laugh my ass out at that Luiz Suarez character, what kind of pills does he take before entering into the pitch of play, they'd better be prescription pills, cos he has to be on some kind of drug.

Lol! He actually bit Ivanovic, and this isn't even the first time he's taking a lunch break on the field of play, I learnt while at Ajax in Holland, they referred to him as a 'cannibal', he obviously delights in eating skin.

There are parts of Africa and South America where human flesh is staple food, Suarez is invited to finish his culinary career in any of these destinations.. He probably grew up in one of them.

Then, his hand ball within his team(liverpool's) penalty area, I don't even want to talk about this, it's absurd. He just lifted his hands to the ball. Where did he think he was?? South Africa?? Some may remember his famous handball at the 2010 world cup in South Africa that stopped Ghana from triumphing over Uruguay and qualifying for their first semi finals, ever.

He also scores with his hands sometimes. He pretty much does what he likes.

I want some of, scratch that, I NEED some of Suarez's pills. It apparently makes you lose your mind for some time. Permit my digression, just that Suarez is such a character.

So where was I?? Yes, Chelsea's difficult fixtures. Chelsea fans may crucify me, but I believe they just may not cope, lets remember that they also have Europa league semi final fixtures to think about, it just maybe too much for them.

So this is my prediction.
Arsenal will finish 3rd: obviously. After a hard fight, we will eventually manage to subdue Spurs, who will come in a close 4th.. Then Chelsea, oh Chelsea. They will be unfortunate to play at the Europa league again next season. Sorry Chelsea.

Back to Luiz Suarez, he was nominated for the Barclays Premier League's Player of the Year award, lol! More like, Cannibal of the Year. He better not win, infact, considering it carefully, this write up isn't even about Arsenal or Chelsea or Spurs. It's about the football disaster called Luiz Suarez.

Amazingly, I read on goal.com that Steven Gerrard, Liverpool legend thinks Suarez is the 3rd best footballer in the world, after Messi and Cristiano, he's probably got things a little mixed up.

Maybe he can score goals and terrorize defences, maybe he can make dribbles and inch perfect passes and maybe he can score free kicks. Also, maybe he's a dramaqueen and dives way too much, maybe he scores goals with his hands, maybe he uses his hands more than his legs, maybe he eats flesh. Luiz Suarez, is not half the footballer that Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is. And making him BPL player of the year is conferring a status of 'legend' on him, a status he clearly doesn't deserve..

Dear John

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hi.. How is everyone doing today?? Okay before I say anything let me quickly answer the 'where the hell have you been?' question that is filling up my inbox. I have been away, reason being that I'd been perceiving symptoms of the dreaded 'writers block' so I decided to take a moment off to get back my precious, beloved brain... So what have I missed?? Any gist? I have a rather interesting one...
So I was just listening to the radio and I heard this captivating story which I decided to share with you guys..

You've had one of those days at work where you just wished you called in sick earlier when you had the chance. 4pm, work is over and you tiredly pick up your car key and drive home for well deserved peace and tranquility. You get home, open your sitting-room door only to find a letter on your center table, you're quite confused at that instant, your hands are trembling, you're fearing the worst as you gradually pick up and open the folded letter, lo and behold, to your dismay, it's indeed the worst. It's one of those 'Dear John' Letters. Apparently your significant other has found comfort in the arms of another. You're Broken. You call your friend, desperately searching for a source of solace, he encourages you to come over to his place, 'you shouldn't be alone in the state you're in' he said. You agree, pick up your key and take off your suit, off into your car with your teary eyes going to your friend's place. You've been driving for about 4 minutes when you encounter this ghastly car accident, it's horrific. 'Oh dear', you thought. 'What could have happened?' You step out of your car in an attempt to channel your negative energy into something positive. You're flabbergasted to see your significant other, bloody, barely conscious. Apparently, while absconding for her little rendezvous with her newly found heartthrob, she was unfortunate to be at the receiving end of a trailer's brake malfunction. 'She needs help', you hear the doctor say, 'She needs 3 pints of blood ASAP, Her life depends on it'. Now, you know your blood is compatible with hers, you know you have the same blood group, and you can donate. And then the doctor comes to you 'young man, do you know this lady? Her partner is dead, she's barely alive, she needs 3 pints of blood within the next 12 hours or she will die'. The big question is What will you say to the doctor? Will you say to him... 'Hey, she's my girlfriend/wife our blood groups match, I'll donate the 3 pints of blood you've asked for, I can't let her die', or would you simply say 'No, I've never seen her, it's unfortunate I can't help' and then just walk away, thinking within you 'lol, Karma's a b@#tch'. What will you do??
Quite difficult right? Especially considering she said in her Dear John Letter that she doesn't ever want to see you again, and that she's better off without you. It's really difficult. Really, really difficult, let me know what you think.
Till next time,, Keep dreaming!!

Almost gorgeous

“There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty.”

- Steve Maraboli

“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.”
-Thich Nhat Hanh

Hi.. How's everyone doing?? It seems like it's been ages, I apologise for my absence: it's been due to circumstances beyond my control, and when I say 'beyond my control' I mean way, way, way, way beyond my control. I'm sure you know I'd never intentionally be apart from y'all., lol!
Anyway, what's been up? What's the 411?? On my part, I learnt something extremely important and extremely powerful. The advantages of feeling comfortable with yourself: feeling good in your own skin.
Being beautiful as a matter of fact, begins inside your head, It depends on what you think of yourself, how you perceive yourself. If you're insecure about your looks, you become insecure about yourself, and then you tend to believe that everyone who passes by you is looking out to see how bad looking you are, this could easily lead to depression. Depression kills.
Perhaps this illustration may be a good example - have you ever gotten dressed for work or school or wherever and then when you arrived at your destination you realized that the trousers or skirts you picked out has an extremely conspicuous tear on it? How did you feel throughout that day?? I can imagine.
Do you sometimes believe that you're almost gorgeous? That you'd be perfect if only that nose was just an inch shorter, or that eye was just slightly smaller?
People often say, 'you're as good as you see yourself' it's an issue of the mind, fine tune your mind, it's yours, manoeuvre it.
You're not almost gorgeous, there probably isn't such thing, you're perfect. When you begin to feel that you have to change something about yourself in order to be perfect, then unfortunately, there's a big problem. You can only give your best to society if you're comfortable in your own skin. Therefore, we need to learn the act of being comfortable with ourselves and our looks, that's the very first step to perfect happiness.

North Korea vs. The World.

Kingman Brewster Jr once said
"There is no lasting hope in violence, just a temporary release from hopelessness"
I'd been considering the 'meagre' nation of North Korea and their Midget of a leader for some time now. Are his threats just the usual rhetoric of North Korea to the world? Or does Kim Jong-Un mean business this time around? The latter unfortunately seem to be the case.
Lets talk about his nation for a second, the nation of North Korea basically consists of a conglomeration of people that have been brainwashed into thinking thoughts of sheer paranoia: how everyone hates them, and the primary plan of every other country is to nuke them - whether or not that country has the capacity to do that. The people are mostly poor and malnurished, the leaders(past and present) are always more interested in strengthening the army rather than feeding the people, the nation was regarded as an army with a country rather than a country with an army. This is expected considering the fascism of their leadership.
Now lets go back to Kim Jong-Un's provocative threats, which is looking more realistic as the seconds roll into minutes and the minutes into hours. An important question is whether or not the missile that may be launched will be nuclear, this seems unlikely, cos if it is, well, it may spell doom for his country.
So why is he doing this??
Is Kim Jong-Un too young for all this power? He is 28 or 29 (nobody really knows which is his real age), but at 29, a person may not be wise enough to actually see the bigger picture, he may be trying to compensate for his youth and inexperience with these threats.Who knows?
Another question is where is the money for these weapons coming from?? This is a nation that is obviously impoverished, but that's another discussion entirely.
While he has declared war on South Korea, it may be safer for him and his nation if he remains quiet and intentionally allow his threats to slowly fizzle, because if he doesn't and he goes ahead with his proposed threats and even worse use nuclear weapons, he then definitely will have put himself and his people in a lot of trouble. Everyone has appealled to him including the Secretart General of the United Nations so need I say more, shouldn't a leader rather than strengthening an army and amassing missiles, concentrate on improving the living conditions of his citizens? You wanna be the judge of that?? Be my guest.

Sunglasses at Night.

I was just wondering, cos I see people that put on sunglasses at night, I see them a lot and I don't understand what the purpose is.
Sunglasses are eye glasses or spectacles that have tinted or polarizing lenses, it's serves as a protection for the eyes from the sun's rays or glare.
Now why wear something that protects your eyes from the sun at night, when the sun is set?? I just don't get it, those who wear it, give reasons which include the following...

Number One
Celebrities stand the risk of getting mobbed by paparazzi and so they try to avoid the flashes of the camera, that's quite understandable.

Some say they can't stand to have eye contact with other people and so they wear their sunglasses every time of the day. Oh really?? Okay.

The issue of being cool. Apparently a person becomes a lot more cool if he has a fashionable sunglasses on, why didn't anybody tell me this??

There's the health issue, some people have really sensitive eyes and it only makes sense to avoid any injury.

Finally, and I find this very interesting "because the sun never sets on a bad ass", Wow! You didn't see that coming did you? I think it makes a lot of sense though, you know, if the sun never sets on you, there's no point taking it off is there?

It's a fashion trend, maybe not the most amazing one ever but it is, and like every fashion trend we have to live with it, cos we have no choice. I personally feel it's not so bad, if you think you look better with your sunglasses on then, put it on. It's always better to look your best right?

Growing beards.

Sometime yesterday, I went to this thing with some of my friends.. It wasn't a party, just a bunch of people hanging out cos they had not seen or heard from each other in ages. I was really happy to see all of them, and I guess every other person was too. One thing I noticed and found disturbing however was, I was the only person in the group who didn't really have a well established reservoir of moustache/beard/facial hair. It kind of got me worried a little, a lot. Why do they all have so much hair on their face?? Why don't I have as much hair on my face?? Those were some of the thoughts that were going through my mind at the time, especially considering that I had earlier read somewhere that the development of facial hair signified the coming of age and garnering of wisdom for a man. Did it mean that everyone in that gathering was wiser than I was? Of course not, I thought as I struggled to dispel those thoughts and concentrate on my friends.

After the get together thingy, I still needed some answers so I decided to do a little research and I found out I wasn't alone, a lot of people a lot older than I am don't have any hair on their faces, non whatsoever. I learnt it had something to do with a persons gene or something and I learnt they were bound to come out, it was just a matter of time.

So to make myself feel better I decided to read a little about the disadvantages of having too much hair on your face. It worked. Now I feel a lot better cos folks tend to look kind of scruffy when they have their beards on, so who needs beards??
Buh Seriously tho, we need to feel comfortable with ourselves no matter what the situation is. So for now, I continue to rep #teambeardless, Till further notice.

Thank you all very much, God bless you. Keep reading and keep sharing.

Respect for ourselves guides our morals, respect for others guides our manners"
Laurence Sterne

"I firmly believe that respect is a lot more important, and a lot greater, than popularity"
Julius Erving

This world of ours... must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect"

Dwight D. Eisenhower

"I have no right, by anything I do or say, to demean a human being in his own eyes. What matters is not what I think of him; it is what he thinks of himself. To undermine a man's self-respect is a sin"
Antoine de Saint.

We all want to be respected.. It's probably one of the things we crave for the most. I mean, nobody wants to be treated like scum, and it gets really frustrating and infuriating when people treat us that way. But can you get respect without given it out??
Respect is simple, politeness and care shown towards other people, it's simply acknowledging the fact that a person, (whoever it is) deserves to be treated politely. It's very important to respect the space of others and the best way to respect others is to respect ourselves.

Texting Language vs. English Language

Can we even still spell?? Are social networks and instant messaging sites destroying English language??
Okay, before I proceed, let me just clear up on an issue I've been receiving tons of e-mails over. I have gotten a lot of messages telling/advising me to tone down my seeming onslaught on social networks and technology, I've replied a few and this should serve as a reply to some others: I am not 'beefing' technology, I'm merely stating certain wrongs that have become of us as a result of exposure or over-exposure as the case may be, to technology, 'beefing' technology is like fighting a war that I cannot win, I like to win wars, naturally.
Anyway, back to our topic, 'Text Language' or 'Chat slang' whichever you decide to regard it as, has obviously come to stay and is going nowhere, unfortunately for The English language.
Effectively, there's a whole new language being written, but that is not totally the fault of the writer per se, is it? Let's take twitter.com for example, any message you want to pass across has to be less than or equal to 140 characters, oh really?? In that case, who needs good English? There's an important message to be passed across here, English language can go to hell.
Also, you don't have all that time to go through the stress, strain and rigour of writing the word 'immediately' when you could simply shorten it to 'imidi8ly' and you'll still make your point, right? I mean, we are not in the 15th century, neither are we sharing language with the King James version of the holy bible. We need to go straight to the point, time is of the essence.
But, hold on a second, what happens when you have to write a formal letter seeking for employment? Or you need to write a proposal for a company that will make you lots of money?
You haven't thought of that now, have you? I didn't think so. There's an arguement that when the need for formal writing comes along, a person can easily switch but it's really easier said than done to convert an 'u' into a 'you' or a 'K' into an 'okay' especially if you are used to instant messaging and texting, which of course we all are. So how do we solve this massive problem and get back our English language? Do we even want back our English language? Do we even still regard English as 'our' language?
According to reports, these spellings are even cropping up in examination answer sheets, some of them, like slippery slime have found their ways into the webster's dictionary of English, words like 'LOL', 'WTF', 'OMG' and it's only a matter of time before 'ROTFLMAO' finds it's way in there too. Seriously though, texting language has come to stay and putting up an arguement against it is kind of like fighting a war against technology, you'll never win. We will definitely be wrong if we say texting language is a good thing, since it's wrong and we cannot stop it, the best bet will be to try to reduce it as much as we can, to the barest minimum.. And that's all I have to say about that, for now..

Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

Scary Darkness.

"Someone once told me that none of us are actually afraid of the dark; we're scared of what it conceals from us. We're afraid of having something with the potential to hurt us standing right before our eyes and not registering it
as a threat"

So you're afraid of the dark?? Yeah.. Me too!
Most of us, at some point in our lives were terrified of dark places, wait, did I say most of us?? I meant all of us. Being afraid of the dark is something that makes us human, it's natural, the dark has always frightened mankind.
The reason behind this fact according to research, is that our fore-relatives, people that lived long before us were usually attacked by predators during the darkest parts of the day and it therefore stuck in their memory and was passed from one generation to another (I don't get this). Also, 60% of lion attacks in Tanzania between 1988 and 2009 occured within the time frame - 6.00-9.45 pm and those who were afraid of the dark survived most of the attacks (naturally).
Children within the age bracket of 4 to 6 are the most responsive to nyctophobia - fear of the dark but as they grow older, the fear diminishes, but this doesn't happen with everyone and that's why some adults remain scared of the dark even at their old age (agbaya).
Well, there isn't a lot of solutions to this problem, matter of fact, the only solution I know is to stay in dark places for longer periods, but you'll rather not do that, would you?? Cos I know I won't.
Buh remember, Plato once said:
"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light"
Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

Watch your Mouth.

“Words are like eggs dropped from great heights; you can no more call them back than ignore the mess they leave when they fall.”

― Jodi Picoult
Words are two edged, they could break hearts, and they could make a persons day. Painful words or verbal insults directed at us tears us apart, it doesn't really matter who you think you are, negative words pierce our hearts and causes us to grieve.
Every negative word is a potential deadly weapon, it does not, necessarily injure a person, physically, what it does is to scar a persons psyche. As this process continues, the receptive individual gets this idea about himself and thus becomes your words. The words we speak to others are as those we speak to ourselves. Words live everlasting, indelible impressions, doesn't matter if you meant it or not.

All of these takes us back to the need to watch what we say, if you have nothing nice to say, then do not say anything, it's not being polite, it's being human. Be kind to other people around you in order to get them to be nice to you, nice words give us pleasant feelings and makes us happy. Try to watch your mouth and don't say anything that will tear a person apart.

"Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear"

Barca Minus Messi.

First of all, I'm not a big fan of Leo Messi, I don't think he's the best footballer in the world, the best footballer in the world is Cristiano Ronaldo, if you ask me.
Now that that is out of the way, let us discuss. Is Barcelona F.C. really such a good team?? I know they have some of the most decorated players in world football, world champions, European champions and all sorts. But they seem to be proving not to be that great of a team without the services of 'the little-big man'.
Take their Champions league fixture that just ended where they played against PSG for instance, barca's attack lacked that oomph or idea of course until Messi came onto the scene, at the 60th minute of the game, he did not really change the game, the only thing he changed was his team. He just kind of switched them on. And then, suddenly, Barcelona became a team again, it appears that the mere thought of Leo being on the field of play springs some kind of psychological activity in the mind of the team.
Is Barcelona a team without Leo? I doubt that, a lot.
Today, Their defence was all over the place, when full backs went on overlaps it took them ages to return to their posts of duty.
Their attack without Leo was clueless and lacked ideas on the ball, and their midfield, which is the strongest part of their game is old and frail and will not last very long. So do you still think Barcelona is the greatest team in the world? Yes?? No?? Let me know.

Lies Men Tell.

I think it was Woody Allen that said "A man who has never lied to a woman has little consideration for her feelings" was it? I'm not really sure, buh I know it's absolutely spot on!
Quick Caveat: This is not a relationship blog or nothing like that.

So anyway, We all lie, that's a fact, okay maybe not all of us, but most of us. Sometimes it's just necessary, you know. It's the best thing to do and You just can't help it, or can you? I'm just gonna let you be the judge of that.
A man just doesn't want to hurt a woman's feeling and most times, when a woman asks a question, the true answer to their question easily could hurt those feelings, so what do you do as a guy? Yea, you damn right - YOU LIE, that's what you do.
So what I'll focus on right now is a few lies men tell women, or guys tell girls, as the case may be. Realize however that some guys could use these lines honestly and truthfully, only that it's a little, tiny bit rare. Okay, here goes.

"I'm not like other guys, I'd never lie to you"
Yea, of course mate, you'd never lie to her, because your brain has been extremely programmed by you that it converts the lies to truth..

"I'll be there in 5 minutes"
Sure you will, you haven't even taken a bath yet.

"I've never told anyone this before"
Hahahaha! Dear God, do girls still believe this line? Okay wait, sometimes it's true. Honestly, it is. But only sometimes. Rarely. *covers laugh*

"She's not half as pretty as you"
It's better we don't deceive ourselves, this is never true, she's always prettier than you. But you really, really, really do not want him to tell you that do you? I'm sure you don't so, he tells you the exact thing you want to hear. And it makes you smile, everyone is happy.

"No dear, you don't look fat in that. You're perfect"
LOL!! I'm just not gonna say anything about this. It may put me in a lot of trouble..

So, dear girls, whenever you hear any of this, try not to hastily judge him, cos he may be saying it just to put a smile on your face because he loves to do that.
N.B. Soon enough we will consider the lies that girls/women tell which are often a lot worse, pun not totally intended.

Daniel Koekpe once said, "You don’t ever have to feel guilty about removing toxic people from your life. It doesn’t matter whether someone is a relative, romantic interest, employer, childhood friend, or a new acquaintance — you don’t have to make room for people who cause you pain or make you feel small. It’s one thing if a person owns up to their behavior and makes an effort to change. But if a person disregards your feelings, ignores your boundaries, and continues to treat you in a harmful way, they need to go."
Toxic people are those unhealthy folks that seem to bring us down, or magically gets us depressed when we are around them, they usually don't know that their opinions hurt us, to them they are just saying what they feel.
It's best to stay focused and maintain your own positivity and hope. Try to rid yourself of these toxic individuals and surround yourself with more goal oriented people, these are people who are consistently positive and enthusiastic, if you will.
Life is short, it's too short. We therefore cannot fence ourselves with negative people, it doesn't matter what our relationship is with them. While it may be impossible to isolate ourselves totally from all toxic people, it is necessary to try and reduce exposure to them to the barest minimum - you can only bring me down if I'm next to you right??

General Street Madness - Literally.

Hello again.. I was going to talk about this earlier, I just forgot, you know, in my state of confusion, panic, and restlessness over my most recent taste of heartbreak, which I suspect I'm beginning to whine too much about, I should stop. It really wasn't that bad.
Anyway, that's not the point. So I went out today, went to check on some things I hold dear, and then, on my way back I walked into a couple of old friends, we conversed for a short while then I set off to my house, on foot - a little exercise isn't a bad idea, so just as I was about to negotiate the junction that lead to my house, I heard a loud scream of 'hello', initially, I thought it was someone I know trying to get my attention from across the road. Unfortunately for the neighbourhood, it wasn't. It was just a man, making an extremely loud phone call. His screaming continued, 'how are you' 'no' 'I'm not around now'. Of course I did not stand there watching him while he was making all these noise, I kept walking towards my destination, but he was making so much noise, you would think he was an evangelist, holding a megaphone, preaching the gospel of Jesus, he was that loud, it was embarrassing, I felt for him, like I felt for the 'my oga at the top' instigator. Apart from the noise he was making, he was also telling a lie. He continued 'no, I'm not in town' 'I'm at Cross River'. At this point, I had turn around, even though he was so far away, I felt like walking back to him and reminding him - 'uncle, this isn't Cross-river, are you lost?'. But I couldn't do that. It was obvious he was talking to someone he was trying to avoid, my thoughts wondered for a while, 'what if the person calling him was around the vicinity, and could hear him'? Cos everyone within that vicinity definitely heard him.
But then again, thinking about it, I do not really blame him, things have become so easy for us in the 21st century, thankfully. A person can do a lot of good things with a mobile phone, he could make a call, a very important call, he could send a text message, he could surf the web, he could stream live events and a lot more. A person could also do some pretty nasty thing with a mobile phone, he could lie about where he is, and even worse, he could disturb a whole neighbourhood and make them uncomfortable listening to his extremely loud voice and hold them to ransom for more than a minute.
This is an advice, while making a call especially if you're in public, try to make sure your voice isn't too loud, cos it gets really embarrassing if you are known as the person that disturbs a quiet neighbourhood with your loud phone conversations.

Love at First Sight.

Hi all.
Good to be here, sorry about how late this is coming.. Someone ripped my heart in shreds earlier, so it took me a while to recuperate, and even longer to think of what to blog about (the pain of an eclectic blogger). Okay I'm just playing about that heartbreak stuff, it was really not that bad..
Anyway, what iz up with this love at first sight or love at first glance mumbo-jumbo that hollywood and literature feeds us with?
Seriously, how many people really believe in that stuff?? Picture this - the guy is going into a supermarket and the girl is coming out of the supermarket, and as the door is pulled open by the guy, he shares a glance with the girl while everything is in slow motion. Garbage if you ask me, I mean, how can you tell you love someone when you see them the first time??
Well, fortunately, despite my obvious skepticism, research actually confirms it true, researchers claim, for some strange reason, that the first few minutes of a relationship, more often than not, determines how far the relationship goes. I find it absurd, but that's just me, I find a lot of things absurd.
Don't get so happy just yet, researchers also claim that the majority of the people that claimed they fell in love at first sight were people who already believed in the concept, and were hopeful to find someone they would fall in love with at first glance, in other words, if you fall in love at first sight, you most likely read romantic novels, and watch romantic movies while eating some popcorn and crying - hopeless romantics!!
Also, mythologically, there's the concept of cupid, a god of love. The myth claims once an image you will love appears within your sight, cupid shoots you with a 'love arrow' or 'love dart' which then travels to your heart and pierces it, then gets you love sick. Lmao!! And people actually believe that, Wow! Anyway, I'm out for now, will like to know what you guys think about this..

Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

Margaret Thatcher.

The Iron lady died today.

The longest serving british prime minister, arguably, the greatest prime minister Britain had, Margaret Hilda Thatcher died earlier today, off of the most recent installment of her series of strokes.
Originally a trained research chemist, she later opted to become a barrister.

She was a great woman, I'm gonna say that again, this time, I'll like you to read it a little slower..
She was a great woman. Apart from the word 'great', i'll say the most powerful word in that sentence is 'woman'.
Truth is, no matter who you are, or what your gender is, if you wanna be great, and you work and walk towards, you will be great.
The life ambition of certain young ladies I know is to become a house wife - don't get me wrong, being a house wife may not be that bad of an idea, but, personally's I just feel it's just a tiny little bit mediocre. Don't crucify me, it's just what I think. I digress..
Margaret Thatcher lead an exemplary life, one that everyone should try to emulate.

RIP Margaret Hilda Thatcher (18th October, 1925 - 8th April, 2013)
I have nothing more to say at this point.

"Language... has created the word "loneliness" to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word "solitude" to express the glory of being alone".
Paul Tillich

"Being solitary is being alone well: being alone luxuriously immersed in doings of your own choice, aware of the fullness of your own presence rather than of the absence of others. Because solitude is an achievement"
Alice Koller

First, we need to understand the difference between the concepts - 'loneliness' and 'solitude'. According to Paul Tillich, loneliness is a word that expresses the pains of being alone, solitude however, is a word that expresses the glory, the awesomeness of being alone.
Quick caveat: This is not an attack, or thereabout on social networking, however close to, it may seem. Truth is, why would I wanna do that? Matter of fact, I'm social networking at the moment. I'm merely trying to illustrate the fact that the youths, who are obviously the most fascinated about the whole concept of networking and texting and tweeting, run the risk of losing their solitude. We do not wanna lose solitude, because losing solitude means losing the 'propensity for introspection' as it were.
We spend valuable time online, scratch that, we spend all time online, chatting with friends, updating facebook status, commenting on facebook status, liking facebook status, sharing facebook status, tweeting, vlogging, pinging, and tweeting (yes, I know, I mentioned tweeting twice). FUN!, I must confess, however what happens to our mind all that time??? The mind of the youth is a well of ideas, a well that never runs dry, kind of like God's love for us, buh in order to harness that mind to positive effects, we need to be alone, to think, to imagine, to dream Thoreau called it fishing "in the Walden Pond of [our] own natures".
We are losing our ability to immerse our minds introspectively. The youths are the future, make no mistake. However, the future needs to be introspective, forget what Master Oogway said about the future being a mystery. The future is you and I, and you and I need our 'mind space' back.
See if you can spend less time online this week, and more time in solitude and deep thinking. Have a remarkable week.
Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

Nothing but the Death Penalty.

Ernest Hemingway once wrote "Never think that war, no matter how necessary, no matter how justified is not a crime"
Sometime 6 months ago we were greeted with a gruesome tale, one that left an indelible mark on most of us, a story that made us wonder where love had gone, a story that drove some to tears. A gruesome tale.
The tale of aluu 4.
It's been six months now since then and still the mere thought of it just breaks my heart, and what's worst? It was captured on camera, how can a human being, born of a woman capture such bizarre, dastardly act of barbarism on camera, and just watch, and watch. It's sick.. My heart is heavy right now, I'm grieving, all over again, it was 6 months ago, and my point isn't made yet, I digress.
The point is, we need not to forget this act of human injustice, we need to keep singing it and singing it, till those animals that perpetrated it are caught, first of all and then made to pay (with their lives), nothing but the death penalty, cos even though we have easily moved on with our lives, just imagine the families of those young boys that had their whole lives ahead of them..
We want no other ruling but the death penalty, that's the only ruling that makes any sense to me. But first, it's imperative for law enforcement agents to make sure they have the right criminals, cos everyone that watched on while this evil was being carried out is a criminal, but we need the right ones, the ones who actually committed the murders..
I can't say anything else, I knew I'd have to blog about this at some point, the thought was consuming. Fact is we cannot afford to forget this, cos forgetting means succumbing to defeat. We want justice and we want the death penalty.
Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

The Passion of the Sport!

It's the weekend again and yes, we know what accompanies the weekend right? SPORTS! Especially for the guys.
I'm talking about the incessant rambling of the behind the scene analysts and the under the tree pundits.. We know everything, absolutely everything, we know how best the game should be played, how well the ball should be struck, when to fire a manager and when not to fire a manager, we know, we know who has performed well and who should be sidelined for the next match, we know all. We know everything. Yet we are far, far away from where the actual action is taken place..
It's a thing of passion however, there is a feeling of contentment that overtakes you when you see your team doing well, or winning something. Remember that feeling you had in your guts when the Super Eagles of Nigeria won the Nations cup for the first time in 16 years?? Ya, that kind of stuff. It makes you feel 'fine' for lack of a better word.
When our team doesn't win? It's another story, we lament of the mistakes the manager made, we ask rhetorical questions like - why in God's name did he bench that striker?, the attack was totally flat. We complain, complain, complain and complain however, next week, we are there, first in line, holding the remote control up to the television set, back on the edge of our seats with our hearts full of hope like we do, every single weekend - 'this week will be better than last week, the striker is on the starting line up', 'that decent mid-fielder is back from injury'. Our thoughts are all over the place, we're considering what is going on the log and what three points will do for our precious team.
It's called passion and that's what make us fans. It doesn't matter that we are millions of miles away from the action, what matters is that we love our teams, and we love them very dearly..
Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

The Little Voice!!

Hello again! So I've been coming across this theory/Hypothesis, (whichever you choose to regard it as) and I thought I'd share it...
If we assign numerical values to the alphabets, ie, 'A' = 1 and 'Z' = 26 then...
A - 1
T - 20
T - 20
I - 9
T - 20
U - 21
D - 4
E - 5
Thomas Jefferson once said "Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude".

"Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude".
Zig Ziglar.
I could go on forever
. Your attitude determines a lot of things and from our theory or hypothesis, we can infer that with the right attitude, you're a hundred percent.
More often than not, our attitude is gotten from the little voice in our head, that conversation we have within ourselves, the importance of this little voice cannot be over emphasized. You are what that little voice in your head says you are and you can do what that little voice says you can, simply put, it's your boss. So when the little voice in your head(your boss) tells you that you can't do stuff, don't even try to make any effort.
The amazing thing is, we have the power to make this little voice our friend and companion, we can tune it to suit our taste. Once you are able to tune the little voice in your head into a positive sweet one, you're on your way to getting the right mental attitude. Attitude is Everything according to Keith Harrel who grew up stutterer but ended up becoming a professional speaker, amazing?? Yes it is, as they say, life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we react to it.

Live Life.

Stanislaw Jerzy Lec wrote, "When you jump for joy, beware that no one moves the ground from beneath your feet."
It's fact that your happiness doesn't get everybody excited. Not everyone is happy about your success.
There's always that person or group of persons at the bottom end of your ladder of greatness trying to unbalance it. It's not a conspiracy theory, it's truth..
Simplest solution is, don't get broken up about it, it's called life people are not here to like you.
Focus, focus on what you do, and do it better and better..
Smile, a smile is contagious, always wear a smile whatever the situation, as often as possible.

Live life, Love life and never let people who don't matter bring you down. As Alexander Solzhenitsyn wrote, " A man is happy so long as he chooses to be happy and nothing can stop him"

The mind

Rose Kennedy wrote “It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone.” Humans are seared with all kind of scars, some self inflicted others people inflicted, if I may. Amazingly, these 'people' inflicted scars, more often than not are caused by friends or the people we regard as acquaintances, but that's besides the point. It's another discussion for another day. Time does not heal wounds, the mind does, when you get wounded, what you do with your mind goes a long way in determining what happens to the wound. Wound in this context, is not necessarily a skin injury, I'm sure you realize that already. When the mind gets injured, only the mind heals it, time has it's own role to play but the role of time is mostly secondary. Learn to activate your mind to avoid long term injuries. Your mind is more powerful than you think.. Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

The Chemistry of Love!!

"The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed." Blaise Pascal. So... The issue of love. You saw it coming didn't you? I mean, love is about the only human behavioural phenomenom that's so universal, every race, tribe, caste, kingdom for some strange, strange reason, falls in love, doesn't matter how macho you are, or you think you are, as long as you're old enough, she's coming, I assure you. A big question is, what's happening in the brain all that time?? You meet, you converse, probably about things that don't even make any sense, next thing you know, you're calling that person saying stuff like 'You complete me' 'I can't live without you', and I'm like seriously?? How have you been living before you met her huh? Any ideas? But that's besides the point anyway, I digress. Back to the question of what goes on in the brain - the chemistry of love.. Now scientists, have come up with an explanation, or at least so they think, and that's what I thought to share with you. Thus, all that talk about cupid and his arrow is most probably false. Sorry! According to those science people, they were able, through the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging technology, to observe the human brain and monitor the goings on during the whole falling in love process.. They conclude there are a few basic chemical hormones that are involved, I'm just gonna quote from some of their findings... "Dopamine is the pleasure chemical, it produces a feeling of bliss. Norepinephrine is similar to adrenaline and produces the racing heart and excitement" According to Helen Fisher, anthropologist and love researcher from Rutgers University, these two chemicals produce a feeling of delight, elation, energy, and sometimes, loss of appetite. I'm getting bored already so I'm just gonna stop. Love is a concept, probably the most complicated concept the world knows, I probably don't understand too much about it, so I'm not going to say. But most people say it's a beautiful feeling that every person should feel. You however need to get old enough first though.. Okay, I'm out. Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

The Heart vs. The Brain.

"There would always be an endless fight between the heart and the brain. You cannot live with only one of them so you have to use both for your judgements. The smart people are the ones who can balance and know when to let the heart or the brain take control over the other."

Fact is, one who references his heart more than his brain is considered thoughtless, stupid sometimes. However he who references his brain more is plain heartless. Therefore, an intelligent man is the one who can marry the two, knows when to use his head and knows when to use his heart, but who is this intelligent one?? Is there really anyone like that?? Can anyone confidently balance the heart and the brain in terms of making choices?? Faced with the decision of your life which would you listen to? Will you listen to your heart, would you do what's right?? Or would you listen to your head, and do what's sensible? Big question isn't it?? I can't tell you what the right answer is cos, frankly, I doubt there exists a right answer here. The important thing is this... Always follow your heart,, but take your brain with you! Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

Million Dollar Baby

Earlier today I watched again, in awe as always one of the greatest movies I'd ever seen, and will probably ever see - million dollar baby. I'm a big boy, obviously, movies do not make me cry, it did one thing, as it always does all the one hundred and seventeen times that I've watched it. It made me think, I was doing a bit of research earlier, as I have a 'thing' for screen writing, somebody wrote "you've failed as a screen writer if at the end of your movie your audience don't get to imagine what could happen next". I digress. This piece is not about screen writing, no matter how much I want it to be. Back to million dollar baby, which is not really where I'm going but is a reasonable premise. Maggie's resolve, she was desperate to make something off of her seemingly worthless life as it were. Amazingly, she did. I know it's a movie and it's not real and all the crap your mind may be saying about what you're reading at the moment, which I'm not sure I really care about, it's not just a movie to me. ***Make your point already, we're getting bored here*** I know, I know, but relax, I'm talking about a legendary movie here. It's a movie every human being should watch, it doesn't matter how old you are, or how many kids you have. Okay enough said about the greatest movie ever made, a movie no other movie can be as great as, thus the word greatest - I just thought I'd break that down, but never mind. The most important thing to me is what we can learn from Maggie's life, even though she died at the end of the movie - saddest movie scene I'd seen in my life. We can learn that no matter how meaningless our life may seem to be at the moment, there's almost always a silver lining, there's something you know in your guts that you're good at, and that thing is what you should do, never let anybody tell you 'you can't', 'you're too old', 'you're not strong enough', 'you're not good enough' cos if you dare to imagine it, you sure can do it. Yes now back to the awesomeness of million dollar baby, I mean, movies just don't get better than it. If you've read this, make sure you go and get your own copy of that movie, I'm serious every human being living on Earth deserves to know the story of Maggie Fitzgerald. Warning... Side effects may include crying at the end, and ruining your mascara. I therefore advice you watch it at night, when you've taken off all your make up!! Till next time,, keep dreaming!!

Respect for Self!

Dorothy Parker wrote “In youth, it was a way I had, to do my best to please and change with every passing lad to suit his theories. But now I know the things I know and do the things I do, and if you do not like me so, to hell, my love, with you.”

It's simple, You're worth the price you tag on yourself. When you consider yourself a dimwit, you're giving others the right to do the same. Interestingly, respect is not an ethical obligation - nobody is obliged to respect you, it's purely for moral justification. Therefore, if you're not comfortable with yourself don't expect anyone to be comfortable with you. Some folks consider themselves to 'belong' to another person, there's no bigger display of self disrespect. Only a person with an incredibly low self esteem 'belongs' to another. Till next time, Keep dreaming!

Rumour Manager!!

"People will believe a big lie sooner than a little one, and if you repeat it frequently enough, people will sooner or later believe it" Walter Langer. Wikipedia defines a rumour as 'an unverified account or explanation of events circulating from person to person and pertaining to an object, event, or issue in public concern'. The rate of rumour spread in twenty first century is a source for concern to all individuals, I mean, you have to be concerned if someone confidently comes to you and tells you something you never ever thought possible, a mind blowing juicy gossip about someone close to you for instance. It's human instinct, the first thing you think of when you hear new information is to pass it on, this has been aided by the surge of technology. Therefore when you hear a pretty nice gossip, it's almost too easy to pick up your phone and IM a friend, who also IM's another friend and the chain continues until it generates into a web of nothing but rumour. Rumours, especially the negative ones don't do anything positive for society. We therefore need to watch the way we pass on information. Try to confirm it's truthfulness before you decide to share it because once you share it, someone else will share it and then someone else... Like that. A fictional story about what negative effects a simple rumour, spread for nothing but fun can have on an individual is going to be posted on this blog soon... Till next time, keep dreaming!!

April Fool!!

You can regard me as a humourless, kill-joy if you want but I'm just gonna say what I think anyway. Now year in year out, on the first day of April people of Earth engage in a certain archaic backward behaviour for lack of a more articulatory word. April fools day, the concept as a whole just does not make a lot of sense to me, I just don't get it. The point of a prank I assume is to use the element of surprise as a tool in tricking a person, problem is, there is no element of surprise on the 1st of April as only a fool would be surprised to be pranked on the first of April. In place of this surprise element, which is obviously missing, the people of Earth decide to increase the intensity of these pranks, and that's where I have a massive problem. I just think certain things are too serious to be played with. Death for instance, that's something that's being used more and more as a prank as these years wind in. The life of a human is too important to be pranked with. As I said, you can call me a humourless twat if you want.. On a lighter note, some of these pranks are really nice, and makes for a good laugh. My advice - keep it as simple as possible. There's still some time, go on... Switch that sugar for salt and laugh as whoever asks for a cup of tea drinks the salt-ridden tea. Happy April fool's day, I guess. Till next time, keep dreaming!!
